Embarrassing Illnesses That Brits Suffer In Silence



Do you know there are a few ailments people hesitate to undergo treatment due to embarrassment?

Here are a few findings based on survey conducted in the UK:
  • Two thirds of Brits with constipation or diarrhoea do not seek medical help
  • One in five suffer from urine incontinence and more than 54% leave it untreated
  • Approximately half of UK people suffering from piles and worms suffer in silence
  • People also hesitated to consult GP for warts, verrucae, thrush, cystitis (bladder infection) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Warts, constipation and urine incontinence are among the serious conditions there were widely ignored.
According to a national survey of 2,000 UK adults, many people were not addressing these serious illnesses, as they are too embarrassed to consult a GP or pharmacist.
The most common ailments constipation and diarrhoea were greatly ignored by two thirds of people, which is nearly equivalent to an estimation of 21.35 million people in the UK.
More than half of Britons who have history of piles and worms did not seek medical attention – the estimation goes around 3.14 million adults in UK.
List of conditions that patients were leaving untreated:
  • Constipation and diarrhoea (66%)
  • Incontinence (54%)
  • Worms (51%)
  • Acne (49%)
  • Piles (46%)
  • Warts and verrucae (42%)
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (41%)
  • Thrush (32%)
  • Cystitis (31%)
Overall, it is found that roughly 5.54 million people are suffering from embarrassing illnesses in the UK, which is one of the major factors when it comes to healthcare.
