The Electronic Prescription Service Of Pharmacy Outlet

Electronic Prescription Service

Pharmacy Outlet offers the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). This article aims to provide basic information about how this service will help you and how to manage your medications.

What is the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS)?

The NHS EPS will enable your GP surgery to send your prescription electronically to Pharmacy Outlet. You must nominate Pharmacy Outlet to receive prescriptions electronically. Please ask a pharmacist about setting a nomination. You can change or reset your nomination at any time, but make sure you inform your GP surgery and pharmacist.

What does this service mean for me?

Nothing is going to change. You can still request your prescription medications in the same way; here you need to go online. All the NHS Electronic Prescription Service will do is allow your GP surgery to send your prescription to the Pharmacy Outlet’s computer system. This means it is less likely to misplace or lose a prescription, as there will be no bits of paper. It takes two working days to generate your prescription.

How will I get my repeat prescription to get my medicines next time?

Your repeat prescription is received at the pharmacy so that you get your medicines with free delivery.

How long will it take for a prescription to get to Pharmacy Outlet?

Pharmacy Outlet can download electronic prescriptions at any time during the day. If your prescription is not at Pharmacy Outlet when you get there, just inform the pharmacist that it has been sent through EPS and they will be able to request it, which may take a few minutes.

Why has the NHS started this?

Sending a prescription electronically has several benefits. It will save a lot of time for patients, GP surgeries, and pharmacist. The healthcare professionals will not have lots of prescriptions to sign and they will not have multiple prescriptions to print. Pharmacy Outlet will be able to manage its work more effectively, as most prescriptions will be stored in its computer system, and this means it can plan the day more efficiently.

It is generally accepted that the electronic prescription service is safer for patients as the prescription is sent directly from the GP practice to the pharmacy.
