The Electronic Prescription Service Is The Future

NHS Electronic Prescription Service

In near future, the NHS Electronic Prescription Service will become the default option for prescribing and dispensing prescriptions in primary care in England.

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) enabled prescribers to send prescriptions to a pharmacy of your choice through IT systems. It is estimated that the electronic prescriptions account for nearly 40% of all prescriptions issued in England.

Paper prescriptions will continue to be available in certain circumstances, but the majority of prescriptions will be issued electronically.

All patients will be provided a token to present at a chemist to obtain their medicine. This token contains a unique barcode that can be scanned at any chemist to get your medicine.

It is expected that the NHS Electronic Prescription Service will increase the proportion of prescriptions sent online to around 90%. The NHS explains that further developments will help maximise EPS volumes.

The pharmacy staff will scan the barcode on the token to download the prescription from the NHS. Nothing is changed for patients who have already nominated the GP practice and pharmacies.

GP surgeries involved in the pilot receive support from the NHS Electronic Prescription Service team.

With EPS prescriptions, pharmacists will need to endorse the service through their pharmacy system.

You will stop receiving a paper script for your regular medication, but you can be assure that the way your medicine is dispensed and delivered will be the same.

Remember, the NHS Electronic Prescription Service is not right for you if you collect your medicine from different pharmacies and if you do not get repeat prescription. It is also not advised to people who travel and work away from home, and those who get their medicine from different potencies.

Pharmacy Outlet can help you to fulfil your NHS prescriptions. In addition, it can offer you medical support for chronic conditions through a new service called PharmaDoctor, a UK’s registered online doctor service.

This online pharmacy will also send you an email about your next prescription due so you do not run out of supply. More importantly, you will get your prescription right at your doorstep.
